“She’s Cool” is a hand-cut collage by Karen Propp that brings together a glamorous woman in white sunglasses, vintage automobiles and fragments of automotive imagery. The tightly constructed composition blends fashion, advertising and American car culture, using shifts in scale to create a playful, surreal visual narrative.
The work draws from the traditions of Dada photomontage, Pop art and feminist collage. Its combination of idealized female imagery and consumer objects has affinities with the photomontages of Hannah Höch, the media-based critiques of Martha Rosler and the layered popular imagery of Richard Hamilton.
