“Morning Glory” is an original oil painting on paper by Stephen Zorochin. Rounded blue-gray forms resembling flowers, seed pods or floating botanical shapes are layered across a warm ground of coral, peach, ochre and turquoise. Small leaf-like marks and loose brushstrokes create movement throughout the composition.
The work sits between abstract botanical painting and gestural abstraction. Its repeated circular forms create an all-over pattern, while variations in color, scale and transparency keep the surface active. The combination of organic imagery and decorative repetition also connects the painting to traditions of Abstract Expressionism and Pattern and Decoration.
